Mindfulness is a centuries-old contemplative practice that can help you develop awareness, clarity and focus in your daily life. Today, therapies based on mindfulness are used effectively to treat addiction. In the context of addiction recovery, mindfulness can be considered a form of mental training. This course is designed to effectively ‘train’ the parts of the brain that have been impaired by persistent drug or alcohol abuse.
Whether you are already sober or just sober-curious, this course will boost your self-awareness, support you as you break free from addiction and help you to work positively with slips and relapses.
Make practical use of mindfulness techniques to prevent relapse into old behaviours, drinking or drug use.
Increased personal capacity to recognise emotions, thoughts and physical sensations.
The ability to respond differently to challenging situations and emotions encountered on your recovery journey.
Use methods to deepen connection and capacity to foster a lifestyle promoting mindfulness and compassion in recovery.
Become part of a supportive, non-judgmental group moving through similar experiences and challenges as you are. CONNECTION is the opposite of addiction: let’s get connected!
When is the course and how often do we meet?
The course starts on Wednesday 15 January 2025 and runs for 8 weeks in total, with the last session on Wednesday 5 March 2025.
We meet online once a week for 90-minutes.
The sessions start promptly at 6.30pm and finish at 8pm. The waiting room will be open for 15 minutes prior to the session, and where possible I will stay online for up to 15 minutes after the session has closed to answer any additional questions.
What platform will be used?
We will use Zoom as our online platform. You will receive the meeting details upon confirmation of your place on the course. The waiting room will be open 15 minutes before the start of the session, and I will stay online for 15 minutes after the session to answer any questions.
What will I need?
o A laptop with a reliable WIFI connection, with functional audio and camera
o Zoom correctly set up and tested in advance of the course
o A genuine desire to become sober or to strengthen your existing recovery
o A commitment to practicing 10-20 minutes of mindfulness for the weekdays of the course
o A dedicated quiet space in your home or work environment that you can ringfence for your practice during the course – if you’re fortunate enough to have a spare room, that is ideal, but it can even be a clean corner where you can place a cushion (facing the wall), a candle and a flower or a leaf in a glass of water
o A journal if you want to take your own notes (you will receive notes from each session)
o A candle and lighter for each of our live sessions
